Home Theater Sound

With the increased popularity of Home Theater systems, the need for proper replication of the audio source has become more important now than ever before.  The advent of multi-channel formats such as Dolby Pro-Logic (DPL), Dolby Digital (DD), and Digital Theater Systems (DTS) has made loudspeaker placement, as well as proper adjustment of audio levels, an intricate part of a complete home-based installation.

In a typical stereo system there are only two loudspeakers with which to deal.  In a full multi-channel setup there can be more than five loudspeakers!   This can make placement a bit difficult.  There are many factors to consider.   Room dimension and acoustics, furnishing, equipment characteristics, etc.  All of these can influence the sound and our perception of it.

We, at HTCal, have searched the Internet to provide links to sites with most of the information on the subject.  We are constantly updating this site to provide you with the information you will need to perform most of these tasks yourself.  In the event that you feel you would better benefit from professional assistance, we can help you setup and calibrate your audio system.
